A Midlife Inspiration by Angela Madeiros
In my 40th year, I had what turned out to be a retail inspiration. After almost 15 years in the health and wellness business, and with two wonderful sons on board, I was looking for a complete lifestyle change. To help clarify my personal goals, I created a ‘vision board’ on which I pinned a collage of pictures, sage quotes and inspirational words, hoping to get a clear, conscious vision of the life I wanted to live. One of the biggies on my board was a desire to create an original boutique – a retail business that was local, added value to my community, and gave back a percentage of profits to carefully selected charities.

In September 2008, a storefront became available in Bragg Creek’s Old West Mall. With great enthusiasm - and very little retail experience! - I decided to jump in with both feet. Armed with great ideas, and a solid understanding of customer service, I created “Angela’s Attic,” a shop where locals and visitors can slow down, enjoy a relaxed shopping experience, and find an incredible variety of unique, mostly Canadian gifts and accessories to beautify their living space.

At Angela’s Attic you’ll find an eclectic and growing line of gifts, antique furniture, vintage and innovative home décor items, and jewelry designed by local artisans. We are the only shop in Bragg Creek where you can find higher end, stylish women’s and children’s consignment clothing. If you have quality clothing that you are ready to part with, I would be happy to consign it for you.

The Attic also carries awesome style accessories, fantastic baby products, beautiful toddler clothing and robes, inspirational books, unique paper products, funky hats, cashmere ponchos, and so much more! Exciting new items are constantly arriving, so you’ll always discover something a little different each time you visit. Never again will you be at a loss to find the perfect gift for birthdays, anniversaries, teachers, hosts, kids, or…you!

My latest inspiration is an exclusive skin cream line called “Susie-O.” Named after my late mother, “Susie-O” includes eco-luxury body butter, bath oil, body spray and three glorious scents, custom blended by local skin guru and green chemist Virginia Smith Broadbent of ‘The SkinGym Shop.’ The Susie-O line will be launched in November - be sure to drop into the Attic and try some. Your skin deserves it!

The Susie-O Design Group will soon be carrying gorgeous, custom tote bags by talented local seamstress Stephanie Kilbride, and designer t-shirts with inspirational sayings. In keeping with my Mom’s deep personal commitment to service and education, we donate 2% of all “Susio-O” sales to charities that support education.

Creating Angela’s Attic has been a real adventure and I’m loving it. Every fall I set my annual goals and this year they are huge. Setting goals, and then accomplishing them, has become addictive! I am always surprised when I hear that a lot of women forget to envision their best lives and set personal goals to make sure their dreams happen. Why not, I ask? No one can really predict to what heights you might soar. Even you will not know until you spread your wings. You may not be able to see your undeveloped potential, but it’s there – and it is enormous! Please drop in to say “Hi”, have a cup of tea, and find something fabulous!Oct09 Bragg Creek Magazine
